Urban Agriculture lessons at Mahereza

Urban agriculture is one of the most important training done at Mahereza. The parents are trained in farming in urban areas where there is less useable land. Over several sessions, mums (or dads!) learn to optimize the space to make small urban vegetable gardens that they can reuse at home. This allows them to have vegetables available to use for their meals and they can sell any surplus. An economic and ecological solution has been implemented in Mahereza with the participation of the NGO EAST. The first step is to germinate the seeds you want to plant. The second step is to pierce a bag of rice in multiple places The holes are all filled with red and black soil, manure (only natural), and gravel at the bottom to drain the water. Our wish is that the families who have come to the center develop fully while learning important life practices to help both their families and those around them.
